TREASURER TEAM CHANGES

We are adopting best practices, and dividing treasurer responsibilities to make the job more manageable.

You know how when you start doing spring cleaning the work seems to multiply? You meant to simply dust those bookshelves, and now you find yourself weeding out your book collection. You meant to wipe down the window sills, and now you find yourself washing curtains and wiping down windows. You meant to put away the laundry, and now you find yourself sorting out clothes to donate.

Well, that kind of work has been happening at St. Margaret’s as well. When Linda Wink stepped down from her role as Treasurer, we began to realize that the position of Treasurer was perhaps too large to expect one person to fulfill. Though we were sorry we never remedied that challenge for Linda, or Ed before her, we realized that we could start that transition now. So we have now divided the work of the Treasurer into three roles: one person who receives and approves bills, another person who writes the checks, and a third person who enters the data and produces reports. So far the new system is working well, though we may be changing out the volunteers fulfilling each role.

While we are “cleaning house,” we also decided to take a look at our collection process for Sunday offerings. We did some research with the Diocese and looked at best practices from other parishes, and decided to restructure the counting process to allow for sufficient checks and balances in the system. That included writing up all the procedures, ensuring we had enough volunteers, and even changing our banking company to allow for Sunday deposits. This work is still in progress, but we are heading in the right direction.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to “spring clean.” We are so grateful for those who have stepped forward, and we appreciate all of those who have served in years past. We are so blessed by your ministries!
