OUTREACH

Our Outreach Committee helps struggling members of the community all year long.

Several times a year, the Outreach Committee appeals to the congregation for financial donations to help those in need in the Plainview/Old Bethpage community. Our Christmas holiday drive is the greatest example of that – along with the purchased donations of toys at Christmas, food for the weekly food basket and the personal-needs items we recently collected for the St. Ignatius food pantry in Hicksville. In addition to these requested donations, we have also been very fortunate to receive several generous financial donations throughout the year from people – some from former parishioners – who send a check and a note requesting that we apply their donation in any way that is needed.

A social worker at the POBJFK high school recently contacted us about four struggling families in the district that were having a hard time coming up with funds to purchase school supplies for the new school year.

We can’t imagine making a decision for our children that would mean having to choose between buying school supplies, replacing worn clothing with a new outfit for the first day of school, or buying less food for the week. Using your ongoing donations, we purchased gift cards for these families to help ease their financial burden.

We are deeply grateful and thank each and every one of you who continues to support our efforts – not only when we reach out to you – but especially those who regularly or occasionally send a check to us – knowing that we are always working to serve the needs of others.
