HUNGER BANQUET - FEBRUARY

Watch for details - our banquet will take place in March

With Ash Wednesday (March 1) fast approaching, you might be starting to think about your personal approach to Lent. In addition to giving up chocolate, Facebook and wearing a hair shirt, the Confirmation Class (and a committee of dedicated mentors) invites you to grow in your faith by attending a Hunger Banquet.

This is an awesome, interactive “meal” that is designed to build awareness of the reality of hunger and global food inequality. These banquets have been held in schools and houses of worship throughout the country and are a meaningful way to express solidarity with the poor through increased understanding and perhaps even a call to action.

While this is a serious subject, we will be injecting some fun into the event. Instead of selling tickets, your admission price will be non-perishable food items for donation to the pantry at St. Ignatius, Hicksville (while the program is geared toward World Hunger, we never want to forget the hungry in our midst!). For each item you donate, you will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win several gift baskets. The more food you bring in, the better your chances of winning!

So that we can best prepare for this exciting event, there will be a sign-up sheet posted in the narthex. This is a great opportunity to bring a friend to St. Margaret's but we are capping participation to about 60 people.

At the writing of this article, the exact date has not been finalized, as we are trying to secure a dynamic speaker. We are aiming for a Saturday evening in March from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. and will announce the date as soon as possible. Questions? … just ask us!
